Camp Figtree - Eastern Cape, South Africa

Updated: Jul 6, 2021

Scenic drive and the final destination is definitely worth it!

Welcome to my very first Travel Blog post.

We were asked by a friend to join her at Camp Figtree to celebrate her birthday, very enthusiastically we immediately said 'Count us in'.

We left from Port Elizabeth and took a slow drive towards Addo on the R335. Once you turn onto the gravel road, keep your eyes peeled for animal sightings, as you are now going into Addo Park territory. Soon you start climbing the winding passes that lead up to the lodge with the most stunning views along the way. Stop anywhere along the way to appreciate the view and have a sip of something. With viewing stops included it took just over an hour to reach Camp Figtree.

Upon our arrival we were welcomed and signed in. We were invited to have a drink on the veranda while waiting for our friends to arrive. Oh man, WHAT A VIEW!

The Veranda

View from The Veranda of the Sundays River Valley Mountains

Once seated on the comfy chairs of the veranda with a drink in hand, overlooking the beautiful Sundays River Valley.... I was going nowhere!

The Birthday Girl had arrived and it was time for me to tear myself away from the amazing view and comfortable chair.

We were assisted with our bags and showed to our rooms. We walked down the wooden pathway and finally arrived at our rooms, once again, the short walk was worth the destination.

Absolutely stunning, exquisitely decorated, spacious and above all, comfortable. Our rooms had a bath, shower, two toilets and a dressing room and let's not forget The View!

An exquisite meal was had that evening at the A La Carte Restaurant, backed with great company. Upon arriving back at our room our beds had been prepared and hot water bottles inserted between the sheets. Amazing - When last has this been done for you?

This brought back fond childhood memories and immediately my smile was wider and my heart warmer.

Camp Figtree is eco-friendly and works entirely on Solar Power

Camp Figtree is eco-friendly and works entirely on solar power, hence the hot water bottles and not electric blankets.

We awoke the next morning to find a flask of hot water outside our door for coffee. How lovely it was to sit outside our room on the veranda, drink our coffee, look out over the endless mountains and take in the sounds of nature.

After breakfast we headed out to the next destination for more birthday celebrations.

We vowed to return in the near future for a longer stay at this amazingly, tranquil lodge.

The staff at #CampFigtree go the extra mile to create a warm atmosphere with great service where nothing is too much trouble.

Upon departure we found that the even our car had been washed - What an unexpected surprise!

Camp Figtree offer various activities, but if you prefer some 'me time' then this is also the place to go to. A two day stay with book and camera, will ensure a more relaxed you.

Good Bye Camp Figtree, it was amazing and we will see you soon for sure!
